Ridham Dock Fender Replacement

Constructex have completed the installation of over 100 new timber fender piles to an existing suspended quay used for unloading of aggregate and cement ships.

The 300x300x6100mm greenheart piles were installed to replace the previous timbers which had become degraded. A special chamfered timber pile footing was included to account for variability in the sheet piling present below water line. UHMWPE rubbing strips were added to the face of some fender piles to assist vessel berthing. Concrete repairs were also carried out to key structural members.

Constructex carried out the detailed design of the fender support grillage which included a bespoke steel pile clamping arrangement. This arrangement allows for greater ease of pile maintenance and repair in future.

Constructex mobilised their 16 metre multicat workboat and minicrane to site in order to facilitate installation.

The project was completed ahead of schedule despite supply chain difficulties arising from the Covid-19 pandemic and Brexit.
