Fulham River Wall

Constructex have completed repairs and refurbishment of a 120m section of Thames river wall in Fulham. The works were required as part of a riverside luxury property development. The works included refurbishing the existing parapet wall, strengthening the existing concrete walls, localised repairs to defective masonry and the installation of safety equipment and timber fendering.

The structural repair scheme involved coring 60mm concrete cores in to the existing concrete gravity walls up to 7.6m deep. Steel tie bars were installed and grouted in to the core holes to provide additional capacity to the previously unreinforced structure.

The existing parapet wall and pedestrian railing system was removed and replaced with Portland stone cast copings with a cast iron post and rail system. The stanchions were secured to the existing wall with stainless steel resin anchors tested to 40kN pull out load.

On the river wall face localised repairs to degraded masonry were achieved using specialist marine mortars and grouts with stainless grade 316 fixings and reinforcement. HDPE flap valves were installed. New safety equipment including 6m long access ladders and safety chains were installed and new greenheart timber fendering was added.

Specialist access solutions including man riding mini-cranes and rope access were deployed to maximise productivity in the tidal environment.

The works were completed ahead of programme in 11 weeks.
