Constructex have completed sheet pile wall repairs for another client. The designed remedial scheme offered by Constructex will provide 30 years design life in an exposed marine environment. The sheet pile wall is exposed to significant hydraulic loading and has undergone corrosion throughout its life. The underlying back-fill material had started to be lost through the holed areas within the wall.
The design solution developed by Constructex provided a reinforced concrete wall facing structurally connected to the sheet pile wall.
Steel plate repairs were carried out initially to ensure the concrete did remained within the concrete facing.
Following the installation of the RC facing, an investigation into the extent of voiding was undertaken by Constructex which allowed a theoretical volume of void to be determined. This void was then filled by coring through the overlying slab and installing concrete into the void.
The work required careful planning with the tidal cycles; utilising the low tides for the works. At the end of each shift all plant and equipment was removed from the work location and stored safely away. The works had to be protected during each tidal window.
The works took place on a public access beach. A detailed traffic management plan was developed with careful management of the public interface to carry out the works in a safe manner.
