We have developed Inspection and Test Plans that benefit from a breadth of project experience. These target the important steps in the method and ensure vital stages have been completed prior to proceeding. This is extremely important to achieve the required longevity of concrete repair.

Concrete is a strong alkali and can be harmful to the marine environment, this is therefore a very important consideration for marine concrete repairs. We have developed tried and tested procedures to mitigate the risk of contamination during the course of our work. We undertake environmental impact assessments on every project on every project and are fully accredited to ISO 14001:2015

It is often a requirement to undertake further testing of the concrete to understand the extend of concrete spalling. A suitable strategy can be developed which considers the information gathered from previous inspections. We test for the following on existing concrete structures:

  • Chloride ingress 

  • Degree of carbonation

  • Half cell readings

Underwater concrete repairs are sometimes necessary. In these instances it is vital an anti-washout additive is used to prevent loss of cementitious material. Consideration also must be given to the tidal flows which should be monitored throughout the process.

Corrosion is a big problem and is believed to cost approximately 3% of annual GDP. In the marine environment corrosion represents a significant problem with a combination of oxygen and water exposure to steel.

As a specialist maintenance provider to maritime assets Constructex has undertaken numerous marine painting projects.


We undertake whole projects from design and specification, devising the access solutions, containment mechanisms, permits and approvals.

We have the capability to blast, UHP jet wash and apply industrial marine coating systems which can have a life of up to 20 years.

Past projects have involved applying coating systems developed by Ineternational and Jotun. We have carried out UHP jet washing to achieve HB2.5 and sand blasting using an environmentally friendly garnet to achieve SA 2.5.

The containment mechnisms we have developed capture the detritus which is cleaned from the existing surface prior to the application of coating systems. We have undertaken projects from the shore side and from afloat using our own vessels.


We have successfully applied for and gained environmental permits on previous projects which have involved marine coating schemes.
